The Monterey Museum of Art cultivates curiosity in the visual arts and engages community with the diversity of California art - past, present, and future.

The collections of the Monterey Museum of Art reflect and support the Museum's mission and focus on California Art, covering the period from about 1875 to the present. The collection's strengths have traditionally lay in the era before 1945, and in California photography in general. However, the post-1945 portion of the collection continues to grow and evolve, with a particular emphasis on developing its diversity and inclusivity through targeted acquisitions in order to more fully represent and reflect our community.

In an effort to make these collections more accessible to the public, we have launched this online database which can be searched in multiple ways using the functions found on this page. Below you will also find several pre-selected portfolios that focus on different aspects of the collection that you can browse and can serve as a starting point. These will be added to and changed periodically.

Please note that this database is presented with the data and images currently available and as a living document will constantly be in the process of being updated, refined, and added to as the collection grows and evolves.
